"Courtney, did you hear that a new family is moving in?" My sister, Maxine, asks, her violet blue eyes sparkling.
Yes, I said violet blue eyes. You see, the ladies in our family (me, Maxine, Monica and Mother) have this genetic condition calked Alexandria's Genesis.
"Yes, I did hear that. When are they moving in?" I add.
"Today!" She answers excitedly.
I eye her curiously. "Why are you so excited about it? I mean, you're never excited whenever I show you my new shoes. And you love shoes!"
She rolls her eyes. "Converses are not shoes!"
"Yes they are! Now, answer my question." I command.
She shrugs. "I don't know. Maybe because I've known the people of Iceport ever since I was born, being one of the mayor's daughter and all."
I give her a nod. "That's a reasonable, uh, reason. I think," I add.
Oh, wait. You don't know who I am. I'm Courtney Lovelace, the eldest daughter of Mayor Andrew Lovelace. He's the mayor of the town of Iceport, as stated above.
I just turned 18 and I'm about to have my senior year in high school. I'm getting old, I know.
My mother calls out to me, "Courtney, darling, come here please!"
I stand up from the couch, excusing myself from Maxine who waved me off, and rush to the kitchen.
"Yes?" I ask my mother. I hope she's not asking me to help her cook again...
"I want you to take this basket to the new family. They live 5 minutes away from us, and I'm sure they would really appreciate it."
"What's in this basket?" I ask her.
"Uh, cupcakes." She answers sheepishly.
"Cupcakes?!" I shout. "Mother, you know I love cupcakes! Why would you give them away when I can gladly eat them?" I ask.
"Don't be selfish, Courtney. I'll give you a prize if you do what I told you." She negotiates.
"More cupcakes?" I ask hopefully.
She sighs hopelessly and just responds with a "Just go!"
"Okay! Don't be stuffy!"
I run out the door and I see our gardener, Mister Spinefield.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Spines!" Yeah, I call him Mr. Spines. Don't judge me!
"Good afternoon to you, too! Where are you off to in this fine afternoon?" He asks politely.
"I'm off to meet the new family." I say plainly.
"How nice of you! What's in the basket? Poison?" He chuckles out.
I shake my head, smiling. "No, cupcakes."
He looks surprised. "You're giving away the love of your life?" Yeah, everyone knows I am in love with cupcakes.
"Yeah, I never thought it would happen at all, but it had to. It's life," I shrug off.
"See you later, Miss Courtney! I have to tend to your mother's roses!" He bids, then he walks into our majestic garden.
I wonder what the new family's like. I hope their nice!
